Will XP3 be supported in Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Vista? XP3 version 5.4 is now compatible with Office 2007 and we are currently in development of new version of XP3 which addresses compatibility with Vista. We are planning to release XP3 version 5.5, which will be compatible with both Office 2007 and Vista, in the 4th quarter. Currently, XP3 uses Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Edition (MSDE) but MSDE is not supported in Vista. What is replacing MSDE and when? As of version 5.5, XP3 will be shipped with SQL Server 2005 Express instead of MSDE. From XP3’s user point of view, this will be transparent. You can read more about the benefits of upgrading from MSDE 2000 to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition here: https://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/express/upgrade.mspx
What are the options for making the transition from XP3 5.3 to XP3 5.4 and 5.5 smooth? The transition from 5.3 to 5.4 or 5.5 will be simple and smooth – there are no other options. XP3 5.4 and 5.5 will be completely backwards compatible with processes and documents built with previous versions. Will there be an upgrade patch from current versions of XP3 to the Vista-compliant version of XP3? No patch can be provided. Older versions of XP3 must be uninstalled prior to installing the new version. This is a very common and simple method for upgrade –take no more than 10 min per machine if not automated. How will the end user functionality differ in the Vista compliant version from the latest release? The end-user functionality between XP3 Presentation Builder/Viewer 5.3 and XP3 Presentation Builder/Viewer 5.4 or 5.5 will not differ. There may be some changes with the purposes of fixing known issues. However, these changes will be invisible to the end user and will not impact the user experience. The main differences from XP3 point of view will be experienced not by users upgrading from Windows 2000-XP to Vista, but by users upgrading from Office 2000-2003 to Office 2007. These differences revolve around the new ribbon interface of Office in general and PowerPoint in particular – XP3’s menu and toolbars will disappear and there will be a new ribbon tab – “XP3”. Other than that, XP3 5.4 will behave the same way as it does in previous versions of Office.
